These terms are the agreement between you and Yorusei for the Seya app. By installing or using Seya, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Seya is provided by Yorusei, a sole proprietorship registered in Singapore (UEN 53532320D). "We" and "us" mean Yorusei. Contact: hello@yorusei.com.
Seya is an offline-first ebook reader with on-device text-to-speech. It reads EPUB, PDF, TXT and Markdown files that you import from your own device, and narrates them using a voice model bundled in the app and your operating system's built-in voices.
Seya does not include, sell, or distribute books, and it does not connect to any bookstore or library service. You import your own files.
You are solely responsible for the files you import and for having the legal right to use them. You must not use Seya to read, copy or narrate material you do not have the rights to — including pirated or DRM-circumvented content. We do not monitor your library, and we cannot, because it never leaves your device. If you use Seya in breach of someone else's rights, that is your responsibility, not ours.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Seya on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, subject to these terms and to the rules of the app store you obtained it from. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or the bundled voice model, except to the extent that such restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
Seya is free to use for reading and listening with the free voices available in the app. The free version displays advertising supplied by Google AdMob, and may offer optional rewarded ads that you can choose to watch to unlock premium voices temporarily or to remove banners for a limited period. Watching a rewarded ad is always optional.
Seya Plus is an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks premium voices, removes banner ads, and includes the other features described in the app at the time of purchase.
The Seya Pass is a one-time purchase that grants full Plus features for 5 consecutive days starting when it is activated.
If we offer a Lifetime option, these terms apply to it:
Lifetime licence. "Lifetime" means that for as long as Yorusei makes Seya available on public app stores, purchasers of the Lifetime option retain access to all features included with Lifetime at the time of purchase, including updates released during that period.
If the app is discontinued. If Yorusei discontinues Seya, the final release will (a) remain downloadable or installable for at least 180 days after the discontinuation announcement, and (b) continue to function offline on devices where it is already installed — core reading and playback require no servers. After discontinuation, no further updates are provided and no refund obligation applies beyond your statutory rights.
What Lifetime does not include. Lifetime covers the Seya app only. It does not include third-party services that may cease independently, such as platform voice engines, nor any future separate products.
All purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are governed by their policies and by your statutory rights.
If something is not working for you, email us first at hello@yorusei.com — we would rather fix it or refund it than have you pay for something that does not work.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any consumer right you have that cannot be excluded by law, including statutory rights to a remedy for faulty digital content.
We may add, change or remove features, and may release updates. Some features depend on your device, operating system version, or third-party services, and may not be available on every device. We do not guarantee that the app will be free of errors or that every file format will render perfectly.
Reading and narration are designed to work without a network connection. Features that require a connection — advertising, subscription validation, and optional analytics — may be unavailable offline.
You agree not to:
Seya is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Yorusei is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost data, lost profits, or lost content arising from your use of the app. Your library and reading progress are stored only on your device and are not backed up by us — please keep your own copies of your book files.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or SGD 50.
Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
The app uses services provided by Google (AdMob, Firebase), Apple, Google Play and Qonversion. Your use of those services may also be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services, and they may change or be discontinued independently of us. See our Privacy Policy for how data is handled.
You may stop using Seya at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your licence if you materially breach these terms — for example, by attempting to circumvent purchase systems. Termination does not entitle you to a refund beyond your statutory rights.
These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore, and the courts of Singapore have exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection rights you have in your country of residence.
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Seya after a change means you accept the updated terms.
